I seriously want to create something. A new banner, a new blog layout, a new wallpaper. I can't seem to find an adequate subject to start something, though. I've been waiting for the better part of a month for a muse to attack me, yet none shows itself. I've been literarily well endowed lately, primarily because of the obscene level of enjoyment I was taking out of El Club Dumas as I basically devoured it in 3 days. Perhaps I should look toward some more flashy, though passive, entertainment and a subject for creation will come forth. I've been feeling far more scholarly than artsy lately, and some movies may just help that.
Nunc scio:
I finished reading my book last night. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning because I couldn't put the damn thing away once I made it to the final 3 chapters. The entire book was basically like that for me. I was enthralled by the third or fourth chapter and read the first 236 pages the two days I was sick. I'm thinking about picking up the entire Perez-Reverte catalogue, since it only consists of approx. 4 books. I enjoy his flair to make what's basically a glorified crime novel so much more than that. However, in a time when Lord of the Rings had begun to restore my faith in Hollywood's ability to make a good movie from a book, this book tainted what may be one of my favorite movies of all time, The Ninth Gate which, essentially, took a smaller thread of the plot, blew it out of proportion and then raped it for the sake of a movie. Character names were changed around, events invented and possibly a solid 2/3 of the movie had nothing at all to do with the book. The characters that weren't attached to the wrong name had their name changed as well, with names like "Enrique" changed to "Andrew" and "Lucas" to "Dean" to anglicize the plot for an American audience when the protagonist is actually Spanish, as is the setting for the beginning of the story. Somehow, now, I have to look at the movie, which I enjoyed dearly, as some seperate entity entirely from the book so that I can continue to enjoy it even though it's a complete Hollywood assraping of the story.
Life:
Another good night at work, but I ended up feeling absolutely trashed. Apparently my body never fully recovered from being dehydrated/starved/ill because I really felt like shit after the night was over. The numbers were high, however, and everyone was happy again.
